Little Italy: Mug’s Bistro

Update, Mug’s Bistro is now closed.

Mug’s Bistro opened quietly in Little Italy a few weeks ago. But while the weather is still nice, taking a walk during lunch to try someplace new is one of my favorite hobbies. I walked in shortly before noon and the place was empty. Once the secret is out about this spot that will be a thing of the past. Chef Todd is whipping up all day breakfast and some Italian creations in the Kitchen that I’m already planning my next visit.

Chef Todd was the only one working when I visited – I was on the fence between the pizza and the meatball sub. The pizza sounded great, but the meatball sub was really calling to me.

I was picturing a nice toasted roll with three-ish meatballs on top, some marinara sauce, and maybe some cheese. Well that would have been maybe a third of the size of the sandwich I got. I was given a large round roll filled with mini meatballs. There must have been twelve in there. I did get my marinara sauce, I also got pesto which was a welcome addition, and there were onions and peppers that really added to this flavorful dish.

I had also read online about Chef T’s sweet and spicy sauce – I asked for that on my meatball sub because I started running in the morning so maybe I should live a little? Well that was fantastic. I would like to pour that on almost every dish I eat going forward.
