Date Night

Fells Pont: Sticky Rice

In the past, I’ve written about great sushi and Sticky Rice in Fells Point is no different. Recently I was meeting up with a friend for dinner and we decided to try someplace new that we’ve both heard great things about.

Sticky Rice has a cute little outdoor seating area that will be really nice in the summer. Inside the restaurant can best be described as a mashup of a sushi bar and a tavern. With music playing at a reasonable volume.

The friend I was meeting was running late so while I waited for her the waiter was friendly and not too overbearing.

When my friend arrived, we started off our meal by sharing Steamed Pot Stickers. They were filled with chicken inside and very good. The dough for the pot stickers wasn’t too thick which kept them nice and light.

We each ordered a few sushi rolls and shared them. The first that came was the Hot Hippy. Inside was spicy marinated tofu with peanuts, scallions, cucumber and carrots. This was really good. I’m not a huge fan of tofu, nor have I ever tried it in sushi and this was delicious and a really healthy option.

We also decided to try a more traditional roll and had the Spicy Tuna with Avocado which was very fresh and exactly what we expected.

We noticed that many of their sushi options are spicy. If you’re not into that then you should probably inform your waiter. The next roll we tried was the Chili Roll. Like everything else, this was beautifully presented. Inside was tuna, cilantro, cucumber, jalapeno, grilled pineapple and tobiko. The consistency on the exterior of the roll was a little funky, but overall it was a great dish with funky flavor combinations.

The final roll we ordered was the Snap, Crackle, Pop. This may have been my favorite. Inside was salmon, cucumbers, jalapenos, tobiko and tempura crunchies. While these are all pretty standard sushi ingredients, they combined together quite nicely.

We also ordered the Garden Balls. These were a vegetarian specialty, inside the fried pocket is red pepper, cilantro and spicy rice. These were a little on the spicy side, but so delicious. I’ve never had anything like them before and I can’t wait to go back and order them again.

All of the sushi was really fresh and excellent. If you’re looking for something a little different, maybe a causal date night or otherwise, Sticky Rice in Fells Point is the place to go for great sushi.
