Sometimes I decide not to eat in Baltimore and I venture outside of the city. On this particular day, we were headed to Columbia for brunch. Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on how you look at it) the wait time was over an hour for where we intended to go so I pulled up Yelp and looked for another option nearby. It was already 1pm so we decided to satisfy my roommates constant pizza craving and try Coal Fire Pizza.

It looked fairly nice inside, the type of place that you could come with friends for a meal but was family friendly at the same time. When we walked in the hostess lead us right to our table. As it turns out, Coal Fire has a few locations in the area and we had heard good things about the one in Hunt Valley.
After briefly looking over the menu, we knew what we wanted. In the past we had ordered Oven Baked Wings before and they were delicious so we decided to give these a go. They were good, the onions on top were cooked nicely and the wings had a nice char, however I wished that they were a little more flavorful and we had to dip them in ranch to get that little bit of extra flavor we were looking for.
Since we were at a pizza place, we obviously had to share a pie. We ordered a traditional pizza with the coal fire sauce because it was supposed to be mild in the spice factor, I didn’t find it spicy at all but I may have a higher tolerance. We also had the pizza topped with grilled onions. This was a good pizza, the crust was nice and thin and didn’t get too soggy from the sauce.
In addition to pizza, my roommates other weakness is french fries. She saw another table with an order of fries and decided that she had to have them. These were great as we expected, thin, skin on and full of flavor. We drizzled a little malt vinegar on them for an added salty flavor.
While this wasn’t the meal we expected having it ended up being pretty good pizza. If you’re in the area looking for pizza, it’s worth a visit!
Coal Fire Pizza has a few Locations, the one we visited is 5725 Richards Valley Rd, Ellicott City, MD.

I too was pleasantly surprised with the Pizza at Coal Fire. Pretty good but now I am going to have to try the Oven Baked Wings.
The wings were definitely very good, let me know what you think !
Thanks for the follow!
My wife and I are always looking for new places to dine out on the area. So I am happy that I came across your blog! I have hung out in Federal Hill and Fells Point quite a few times over the years and passed by many of the places you have blogged about. Now you have given me reasons to check a few of them out. 🙂
