Hampden: Golden West Cafe

Recently, my mom came for a quick visit to Baltimore to spend time with me. For brunch one morning, she asked me to take her to one of my favorite places with ‘a unique Baltimore experience.’ With that, I knew exactly where to take her, Golden West Cafe in Hampden. It was the perfect choice because after brunch we went for a walk down the avenue. As we walked up to the restaurant, I could tell she thought the place looked good. With its funky decor and interesting menu, I knew it would not disappoint. Also, if you have any dietary restrictions (vegan, gluten free, etc) Golden West Cafe is very accommodating.

After looking over the menu, my Mom and I decided to share two items. The first was the Huevos Rancheros. The plate came with two sunny-side up eggs smothered with chilies, cheese and salsa over a flour tortilla. The runny egg yolks mixed with the salsa made for a delicious flavor combination and we throughly enjoyed this.

My Mom and I also decided to share the Zucchini Brie Pancakes because we were looking for something on the healthy side. Unfortunately these were not as healthy as we had hoped but they were so delicious. It was a pancake with zucchini and scallions mixed into the batter with hints of lemon and topped with brie cheese and honey butter. I have never had anything like this before and I would order this again on my next visit, it was that good.
