When I’m home, I always make it a point to stop at Gabby’s Bagels in Woodbury (despite the horribly slow service.) And that’s really saying something because when I say the service is slow, I mean slow. Don’t expect a visit to take less than 20 minutes, regardless of what you’re ordering. Despite the service, the food is really good, and they have tons of healthy options if you’re looking to keep it light.
My mom and I often stop into Gabby’s for lunch when we have at least 45 minutes to kill and we’re in the mood for something healthy.
While Gabby’s has bagels in the name (and they are pretty good bagels) that wasn’t the reason behind this visit. Nonetheless, we split a flagel with lunch. If you’re unaware, a flagel is pretty much a flat bagel. With the flagel we ordered a side of veggie cream cheese. Compared to the mediocre bagels I’ve been eating in Maryland, this is pretty much heaven in carbs. But for a New York bagel, it’s your average cream cheese vessel.
We each ordered a sandwich, the real reason we came to Gabby’s. But this isn’t your traditional sandwich, my mom ordered the low-fat lobster salad which is a healthy alternative to traditional lobster salad and it can come on a lettuce wrap to make the sandwich even healthier.
I’m a huge fan of chicken salad, and Gabby’s has hands-down some of the best around. Not only is it extremely delicious, it’s also low fat. I also ordered mine on a lettuce wrap which is great because it gives the dish a nice added crunch.
Gabby’s also has great sandwiches, bagels, omelets and pastries and if it wasn’t so slow there, I’d probably visit almost daily. But when I’m looking for something satisfying and healthy, it’s always where I go.
Gabby’s has two locations, but the one we visited is located at 8025 Jericho Turnpike, on Long Island
