American Food

Little Italy: Mustang Alleys

Recently, my friend celebrated her birthday and wanted to spend the evening at Mustang Alleys. In case you’re unaware, Mustang Alleys is a bowling alley with a bar and a restaurant inside. We arrived at 7:30 on a Friday evening and noticed the restaurant area was empty which made me a little uncomfortable. Normally I avoid eating in restaurants that are empty at prime dining times, and I also avoid eating at bowling alleys. But this is where my friend wanted to spend her birthday so I was stuck eating bowling alley food in an empty restaurant. Fortunately, I ended up enjoying the meal much more than I had anticipated.

When we sat down, our waiter was very attentive and took our drink orders right away and answered any questions we had about the menu. After ordering a round of drinks, we also decided to share an appetizer as a table. The menu was comprised with American food and other typical bar fare so we split an order of Fried Pickles.  I was expecting pickle chips but instead we were given pickle spears that had been battered and fried. When you bit into them, the fried exterior came off for the most part, but the Creole Tarter Sauce they came with was amazing. I actually asked for a side of it to dip my french fries in later.

For our main courses, we each ordered our own dish. One friend decided to try the Chicken Quesadillas. She really liked this dish and how it was cut up into small bite-sized pieces so it didn’t make a mess. Inside the quesadilla was shredded chicken, tomatoes, onions, peppers and cheddar cheese. While there was nothing particular special about this dish, it was definitely a hit.

Another friend we were with decided to build her own burger. For the meat she picked a piece of grilled chicken and then was able to top it with whatever she wanted. The burger also came with a side salad. This was clearly one of the healthier options on the menu but my friend liked it a lot.

For my main course, I decided to order the Buffalo Chicken Wrap because it’s easily my favorite type of sandwich. The wrap was great with a nice balance between the heat from the buffalo sauce and the ranch. The sandwich was good, but there was nothing particularly special about it.

Overall, the food at Mustang Alleys was much better than I anticipated and pretty good bar food. But I don’t think I’d go out of my way to eat there again unless I was planning on bowling too.

Mustang Alleys is located at 1300 Bank St.Downtown Baltimore.
