Recently, everyone has been going crazy over fro-yo and the create-your-own shops have been popping up everywhere. But that doesn’t mean we should abandon and forget about fro-yo’s delicious cousin, ice cream. The Charmery in Hampden has been serving up delicious and fun flavors with some Charm City influence since 2012. At The Charmery, all of their flavors are made fresh daily with local ingredients.
When I have the ice cream crave, The Charmery is hands down my favorite place to go. On one of the plenty of hot summer nights we’ve been having in Baltimore, I convinced my roommate to drive over to Hampden with me for a delicious treat.
When we arrived, the line was out the door, but that’s to be expected on a warm night with delicious ice cream. After looking over some of the flavors they had for the day, we sampled the Old Bay Caramel (how Baltimore of us) and decided on what we were going to order.
My roommate ordered the Berger Cookies and Cream. This was so creamy with huge chunks of Berger Cookies, talk about delicious.
My other friend ordered the Mint Chip and it was bursting with minty flavor. She said she would have preferred if the mint flavor was a little more restrained though because towards the end it was overpowering and said it tasted as if she just downed a box of mints.
I ordered a mix of two flavors and got the Maryland Mud and Salted Caramel. The Maryland Mud was chocolate ice cream with Oreo’s and chocolate chips. This was rich and creamy and delicious when I mixed it with the Salted Caramel. The Salted Caramel was so sweet with a nice salty tinge towards the end and these flavors mixed perfectly together.
Overall, we were all very happy with the ice cream at The Charmery and can’t wait to go back to Hampden to try more of their fun Baltimore flavors.
The Charmery is located at 801 W. 36th St. in Hampden.
