Canton

Canton: Verde

In Canton, I’ve been hearing great things about a pizza spot called Verde, but every time I’m craving Neapolitan pizzaHersh’s is around the block and I already know that I love it there so I don’t see the reason to leave the neighborhood. However a friend and I were already headed to Canton to meet a friend later so we decided to try Verde which I’ve been meaning to visit for about a year now.

When you enter Verde, you’re immediately hit with a rustic feel that is also warm and inviting. If you’re looking for a date night spot and you want something a little more low-key or a place for pizzaVerde is a great spot to consider.

After glancing over the menu, we noticed there are plenty of gluten free, vegetarian and vegan options which is awesome if you have dietary restrictions.

Normally I don’t order a bread basket on a menu, but if there’s any place that will have great bread it’s an Italian restaurant. We ordered the Pane which was homemade wood-fired baked bread, served with extra virgin olive oil & balsamic vinegar. The bread was great and an awesome way to start off our meal.

We each decided to order our own pizza. My friend ordered the Margherita pizza which was made with homemade mozzarella and pecorino romano. The 10 inch pie was delicious but she couldn’t finish it and had awesome leftovers for the following day.

I really wanted a pizza with eggplant on it, unfortunately at Verde there are no substitutions so I ordered a different pizza from their extensive list. I picked the Funghi di Bosco Pizza. This pizza was very similar to the Margherita Pizza, it was made with homemade mozzarella, wild mushrooms, and pecorino romano. It was delicious and I sprinkled crushed red pepper on top for a nice little kick. The waiter even brought over the crushed red pepper olive oil to dip my crust in. This was delicious and made me wish I had more crust to dip in it.
