BBQ

Federal Hill: Harbor Que

Update: Harbor Que is now closed.

BBQ is a cuisine I like significantly more since moving to Baltimore. I know it’s not a major BBQ town, but it’s better here than where I grew up. After watching the food network in the afternoon, I knew I’d have to satisfy my BBQ craving that evening with something good.

When my roommate came home I talked her into trying Harbor Que in Feder Hill with me instead of heading to Canton for Mission BBQ. Harbor Que has Carolina style BBQ and I’ve read that their brisket is great.

From the second you walk into Harbor Que, you’re met with a nice country feeling. We decided to order a few sides to really sample everything the place has to offer.

My roommate loves cornbread so of course she had to try it. The cornbread was a little dense and would have been better had it been served warm. But that didn’t stop us from finishing it.

We also ordered a side of Mac and Cheese. It was deliciously cheesy and packed with flavor. When you think of mac and cheese to compliment BBQ food, this is exactly what should come to mind.

We also ordered a side of the French Fries. These were nothing special, but good nonetheless.

For our meals, my friend ordered the Chicken Fingers. She really enjoyed these paired with the delicious dipping sauces. The chicken fingers were moist and while probably not what Harbor Que is known for, she would order them again.

There were three sauces, hot sauce, sweet BBQ sauce and Carolina Mustard. The Carolina mustard was my favorite, it was sweet with a nice tang of heat.

I decided to try something a little more typical for a BBQ joint and ordered a side of Cole Slaw to put on top of my Brisket Sandwich.

The Brisket on this sandwich was amazing. There was plenty of tender brisket slices on the roll and once I added some Carolina Mustard and Slaw, this sandwich was elevated to another level. One of the reviews I read online mentioned that this was the best brisket in Baltimore. While I hardly consider myself experienced enough in Baltimore’s brisket scene, this is definitely worth a try!

For great BBQ in Fed Hill, make sure to visit Harbor Que. The portions are large and the prices are fair and the food is delicious making it a great deal.

Harbor Que is located at 1125 S. Charles St., Baltimore
