Downtown Baltimore: Forno

I often complain about the pizza in Baltimore, in terms of a quick slice, the options are slim to none. But if you’re looking for something a little more upscale and gourmet, Forno in Downtown Baltimore hits the spot. After reading about Forno in June in Baltimore Magazine, I knew I had to try it and fortunately, I was not disappointed.

From the second you enter, you are greeted with a  rustic feel which based on some of my other experiences in Baltimore, is a sign of a good spot.

When we sat down, we placed an order for the House Made Herbed Bread with olive oil. The bread wasn’t bad, but not necessarily worth the additional charge we paid for it. We could have done without it.

Next, we ordered the Roasted Green Beans which came with Garlic Aioli and a sprinkling of parmesan cheese. These were probably the best string beans I’ve ever had. They were packed with flavor and that garlic aioli complimented the cheese and string beans perfectly, we finished the entire plate rather quickly.

My friend and I couldn’t decide on a pizza so we each decided to order our own. My friend, in her typical un-adventurous fashion ordered the Margherita Pizza. It came with fresh mozzarella, crushed tomatoes and fresh basil. The pizza was thin crust and cooked to perfection and the sauce was super flavorful.

For my pizza, I ordered the Artichoke. This came as a recommendation from my waitress and I was thrilled with it. The pizza was topped with artichokes, caramelized onion oil, baby kale and parmesan cheese. I really loved all the flavors in this pizza, however I wish there was more of that delicious artichoke instead of only on half of the slices.
