Silver Spring: Copper Canyon Grill

I was invited to preview the sushi menu for the upcoming location of Stanford Grill in Rockville at Copper Canyon Grill in Silver Spring. The Stanford Grill in Rockville will be opening in the next coming months, but for the time being, there have been a few Sushi Night previews at the other properties owned by Blue Ridge Restaurant Group.

The new restaurant will have unique sushi plates by Chef Sean Kinoshita, former Executive Chef of the World Famous Tao Restaurant in Las Vegas.

My friend and i ordered four out of the five unique sushi creations from the sample menu. I was thrilled when I looked over the menu and saw that there were multiple tuna options because tuna is my favorite type of sushi.

The first roll we tried was the Spicy Tuna Roll (Sriracha Mayo). This is something I would normally order and I liked it a lot. The roll was tuna, Sriracha mayo, and wasabi. The fish was really fresh which made the rolls even better!

The next roll we tried, Spicy Tuna Roll, Battera Style, was my particular favorite. This was a tower of all of my favorite sushi things, rice, spicy tuna, avocado, and sashimi tuna then topped with Sriracha mayo and unagi sauce. When the Stanford Grill opens in Rockville, you bet I’ll be back for another one of these!

We also sampled the Coconut Shrimp Roll which I found to be a little too sweet for me. This roll had fried shrimp, masago mayo, cucumber, avocado, and pea sprouts. Of the four rolls, this was by far my friends favorite roll.

Last, we ordered the Yellowtail Jalapeno Roll, Cilantro. This roll consisted of yellowtail, cleaned jalapeno, wasabi, and cilantro. I love cleaned jalapeno because it makes jalapenos tolerable to anyone who does not enjoy extreme heat. Unfortunately, our expectations for this roll fell short, there was a little too much cilantro and it overpowered the other flavors in this roll.

Overall, between the fresh sushi and our awesome waitress Jordan, my friend and I really loved the Sushi Preview Night at Copper Canyon Grill. I am really looking forward to the opening of the Stanford Grill in Rockville so I can try other delicious creations by Chef Sean Kinoshita.
