Some friends from college and I were meeting for brunch and decided to try out Slainte in Fells Point. Mainly, because it was recently on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives. But also because I love corned beef hash, and I would guess that an Irish Pub would make a better version than some that I’ve previously had.
As a table, we started with an order of Soft Pretzels, mainly because when one of my friends sees it on a menu she can’t resist ordering them. These weren’t very good, there was no salt on them which is half of a pretzel. Fortunately there’s the soft pretzel stand in Fells Point basically right outside of Slainte, so my friend satisfied her craving after brunch.
One of my friends was feeling particularly picky this morning and wanted nothing more than a Grilled Cheese. The bread was crispy and the cheese was melted, what’s not to love.
One of my other friends went with an order of Irish Pancakes. This was not your traditional order of pancakes, you were served three rather large potato pancakes toped with herb sour cream and a side of potatoes and sausage. I love potato pancakes, but these weren’t as crispy as I would have liked. The sour cream was a delicious topping for them though. My friend loved the dish, which is really the most important part.
My love of Corned Beef Hash is what brought my friends and I to Slainte, so of course I ordered that. This dish came with a lot of meaty tender corned beef brisket, potatoes, onions, peppers, and two over easy eggs. This corned beef hash was on par with the one I had at Woodberry Kitchen, it was wonderful.
