Food Truck Baltimore

Food Truck: Well Crafted Pizza

If someone told me that one day I would be eating pizza out of the back of a pickup truck, I’d probably smile politely and think ‘definitely not.’ Well that all changed when Well Crafted Pizza rolled into town and invited me to their ‘Pizza Preview Party.’

Well Crafted Pizza is a 1949 Dodge Pickup Truck with a wood fire oven attached to the back. All of the ingredients are locally sourced and the pizza’s are inventive.

The Pizza Preview Party was hosted at Union Craft Brewing which was awesome because I love a cold beer with my pizza; and Union has some of the best in town.

I was able to sample 5 of the different pizzas they offer, and each had a suggested beer pairing.

The Margherita Pizza was your traditional tomato sauce, mozzarella, fresh basil, and olive oil. I wouldn’t have minded a little bit more cheese on this, but overall it was a great pizza. On all of the pizzas, the crust was thin but still retained a doughy texture, I absolutely loved it.

Well Crafted Pizza also had the Chorizo & Spinach for us to try. It was the Margherita pizza, but also topped with chorizo and spinach. The chorizo was spicy and added a nice textural component.

Probably my favorite pizza of the evening was the Bahn Mi, it has more of the delicious doughy crust topped with pork, mozzarella cheese, cucumbers, carrots, radishes, cilantro, and Chesapeake mayo. This pizza was super creative, and I loved the freshness from all the raw veggies.

The final savory pizza offered was a Purple Pesto. The pesto was pureed beets with garlic and olive oil and spread on the pizza dough. Then it was topped with goat cheese and basil. This pizza was another favorite of mine, I love the combined sweetness of beets with the tang of goat cheese.

There was also a sweet pizza offered, the Caramel Apple (Pizza) Pie which was also delicious. The dough was spread with Mouth Party Caramels, topped with cinnamon coated apples and then chopped peanuts.
