As a Baltimore City resident, I don’t regularly leave the city; we have almost everything that I need. However the Business Administrator for Grille620 reached out and invited me and a guest for dinner to their restaurant in Howard County. While I rarely leave the city – I am always willing to travel for amazing food. Grille620 has excellent reviews on Yelp and Foursquare and was also recommended to me by a fellow blogger. My friend and I were beyond excited to cross someplace off of our list. Let me tell you, Chef Fabio is absolutely killing it – you can check him out on Instagram to see what else he is creating.
My personal view of Ellicott City (and all of Howard County to be specific) is that it is miles and miles of strip malls and shopping centers, but, that’s suburbia for you!
It was a beautiful summer evening and we opted to sit outside. The main dining room looked nice, but it reminded me of someplace my parents would dine, I prefer things to be slightly more relaxed.
My friend that joined me for dinner is a Baltimore native and has a hard time saying no to crab, so she opted to start with the Crab & Artichoke Dip. It was cheesy, it was creamy, and it was full of flavor. The best part, there was plenty of crab to go around.
I opted to start with the Tuna Tartar, fresh diced tuna over a bed of seaweed salad, drizzled with wasabi aioli and served with a few wonton chips. The tuna was so fresh and over a bed of seaweed salad gave it some brightness and a slight crunch. I think I prefer the addition of seaweed to avocado that typically accompanies tuna tartar. The wasabi aioli was a little bit salty and gave the dish an amazing creamy component. It was outstanding and made with a beautiful presentation.
For my friend’s main course, she opted to order the Filet Mignon. Unsurprisingly the meat was insanely tender. I dislike ordering filet because it tends to be less flavorful than other cuts of meat, that was not the case here. Chef Fabio rubbed it in a delicious blend of spices which created a beautiful crust – my friend declared this was the best filet she’s had. Let that sink in. At a strip mall in Ellicott City, we have found the best filet mignon. Maybe Howard County does have some redeeming qualities after all.
The wow factor didn’t end with my friends main course, I was also blown away by the Rack of Lamb. This was a special for the evening and if you’re at Grille620 and see it on the menu, you better order it. The portion was huge, I was served ten lamb chops, traditional orders are usually around six. The lamb was rubbed in the same delicious spice mixture as the filet which gave it a nice crust and a juicy interior that was a perfect medium rare. The dish was also served with a few roasted peppers and truffled potato wedges. The sides were delicious, but didn’t hold a candle to that wonderful rub on the meat.
We also split a side of Charred Brussels Sprouts. The sauce was a little on the sweeter side, similar to a teriyaki sauce which was good, but I probably would have been happier with a different side dish.
Lastly, my friend and I split dessert. She’s an ice cream sundae fiend so once she spotted the Brownie Sundae on the menu, there was no reasoning with her to try a different dessert.
This was another clear winner. The brownie was warm and gooey, just how I like it. It was then topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and drizzled with caramel and hot fudge. Talk about the perfect way to end a meal!
If you decide to make the trek out to Ellicott City, be sure to check out all of the delicious offerings at Grille620, you won’t be disappointed.
