Canton: Gunther & Co.

One of the most hyped restaurant openings this year was easily Gunther & Co. in Canton/ Brewers Hill. It felt like construction took forever, but it was well worth it. The space is stunning. Even if you don’t like food (which I suggest you find a new blog) go to admire the space. Between the living wall, the touch of industrial decor, and the open kitchen, there’s something great to look at every way you turn.

A good friend also had Gunther & Co. on her shortlist so we made plans to go for dinner. After looking over the many menus we were given – seriously we had an ‘all day menu’ plus a dinner menu, it was a bit much – we opted to start with the beef tartare. This was probably the best one I’ve ever had. The addition of Thai chili made it slightly spicy and it played very nicely on the creamy flavor. This is on the must order list for anyone who visits Gunther.

We also started with the Fried Delicata Squash which was another hit. It wasn’t greasy at all and the crispness from the apples played nicely with the sweet from the coconut and the spiciness from the jalapeno.

My friend ordered the Wood-Oven Roasted Chicken and this picture does not do it justice. The skin was crispy and the meat was so tender and moist – all chicken should be cooked this perfectly.

I ordered the Tea Smoked Duck Breast and couldn’t have possibly been happier with my choice. The meat was tender and the flavors were fantastic. The bar has been raised for all future duck dishes I may encounter. I’ve been raving about this dish since I finished the meal.

Everything at Gunther & Co. was absolutely fantastic and despite what I had heard from friends, the service was remarkable. I’m already counting down the days until my next trip.
