Canton has more than its fair share of bars, so I always take notice when something new enters the scene. Earlier this year, Cask and Grain made its debut onto the scene and it’s received a good amount of buzz. Rightfully so, the food is thoughtfully prepared and has a seasonally updating menu. Fortunately, earlier this month I was invited in to try out a few items on the menu and I could not have been happier.
I visited Cask and Grain on a Wednesday evening which just happens to be the night of their Oyster and Bubbles special. For $30 you can get a dozen oysters and a bottle of Cava. Cava is one of my favorite drinks so sign me up!
After the Cava and oysters, we had a chance to try the Delicata Squash & Arugula Salad. Usually, I’m not a fan of nuts, but the candied walnuts in this salad were so finely crumbled that they tasted like candy bits on each bit of lettuce. I would highly recommend this salad to anyone who is looking to start their meal off with something on the lighter side.
For my entree, I ordered the Elysian Fields Lamb Loin which was the perfect mix of Mediterranean flavors. The lamb was olive crusted which added a nice saltiness, and served over a smoked yogurt sauce which is how I’ll be eating all of my yogurt going forward. Lena from @DineWellBmore also ordered the lamb and I don’t think we said a word to each other once we started eating until we finished our plates. It was a great dish.
No meal is truly complete without dessert – it is certainly my favorite part. There were many desserts brought out to us but the one I really had my eye on was the Bittersweet Chocolate Tart. A nice thick slice of pie topped with a heaping scoop of ice cream and some swirls of caramel, seriously, what more could you ask for to end an evening?
Because we were given a few desserts to try I did also try the flan. Normally this wouldn’t be something I’d order so I was thrilled to have a bite. The custard was so creamy and the mint leaf on top made this a very refreshing dessert. Paired with the blood orange and gingersnap crumble, I was in love.
