I love a good sandwich – but there are so many components, the perfect crusty bread, something salty, something creamy, a little bit of acid, and in my mind some heat. Pitango Bakery + Cafe has been open in Fells Point for a few years now and I love to visit whenever I get the chance. The space is wide open and situated right along the water – perfect for sitting outside on a nice day.

I stopped in for dinner after work and started with a fresh mint lemonade, this was such a refreshing way to start the meal.

For dinner, I opted to create my own sandwich. All of the bread is made in house daily and the foccacia looked amazing. I topped my sandwich with fresh, creamy avocado, shishito peppers – that packed some nice subtle heat – and prosciutto di parma which added a little bit of salt. It was such a great sandwich – I’m getting hungry just thinking about it.

My friend ordered the Caprese Sandwich which is a traditional Italian sandwich with mozzarella, tomato, basil, and olive oil. This was so fresh and the cibatta bread was also delicious. Another must order at Pitango.

Because no meal is complete without dessert, we ordered a pair of cruffins. A cruffin is a croissant and muffin hybrid that is filled with custard. This was buttery, flaky, and a must order for any trip to Pitango.
