Philadelphia has no shortage of great bars, but few manage to feel both hidden and effortlessly cool. On a recent trip to the city, some friends and I were searching for a standout happy hour spot and ended up at Writer’s Block Rehab. Tucked down a quiet alley in Center City, this bar immediately charmed me — it felt like the cozy, book-lined library I always wished my town had, paired with a killer cocktail list and shareable plates.

We started with the Avocado Toast, which was light, fresh, and perfect for sharing. The whole-grain bread was topped with creamy avocado, sliced cherry tomatoes, and a hard-boiled egg — simple, clean, and delicious.

The drink menu, designed like a table of contents, was one of the most creative touches. I kicked things off with The Gimlet Comes Home, a crisp blend of vodka, lime, cucumber, and mint. It was refreshing and perfectly balanced — exactly what you want on a summer evening.

One of my friends went for the Greyhound, a mix of grapefruit vodka, prosecco, and grapefruit juice. I’m a sucker for anything grapefruit, and the addition of prosecco added just the right touch of sparkle.

Our final cocktail of the night was the frozen My Way or the Highway, a customizable slushie-style drink. We chose the mango and vodka version — sweet, icy, and incredibly refreshing. I don’t usually love frozen drinks, but this one completely won me over.
