When it comes to sushi, there’s really no in-between — it’s either fresh and flavorful or a total miss. Luckily, at Kado Sushi in Syosset, New York, the fish is always fresh, the rolls are beautifully made, and every dish tastes like a work of art.
On a recent trip home, my parents asked me where I wanted to go for dinner, and my craving for sushi made the choice an easy one. Tucked inside a small strip mall in the heart of Syosset, Kado might be easy to overlook from the outside — but trust me, this place is worth discovering.
Since we knew exactly what we wanted, my family and I placed our order as soon as we sat down. It was still early in the evening, and the restaurant was quiet — which turned out to be a great thing. When the sushi chefs have extra time, they often experiment with new creations, and this was one of those lucky nights.
The chef brought over a special roll that featured avocado and salmon inside, topped with tuna, tempura flakes, spicy mayo, wasabi sauce, and eel sauce. It was the perfect mix of creamy, spicy, and crunchy — and I’m crossing my fingers it becomes a permanent menu item soon.
First up was the Tuna Dumpling, which isn’t your typical dumpling. Instead of dough, thin slices of sushi-grade tuna wrap around mango, avocado, and seaweed salad, all topped with a drizzle of basil sauce. It’s easily one of my favorite dishes — fresh, light, and bursting with flavor.
Then came the Sashimi Salad, made with tuna, salmon, baby greens, and an onion dressing. The fish was melt-in-your-mouth fresh, and the dressing tied everything together beautifully.
Next, I had to order the Kado Sandwich, which started as a chef’s creation but has since become a local favorite. Imagine tuna and avocado “sandwiched” between layers of rice and seaweed, finished with spicy mayo and eel sauce. It’s simple, stunning, and delicious — one of those must-try items you’ll order again and again.
We also tried the Magical Roll, a unique combination of spicy tuna and avocado topped with miso-glazed eggplant. The slight crunch from the eggplant and the richness of the glaze made it a standout roll.
From classic sashimi to creative rolls, Kado Sushi delivers fresh, flavorful, and inventive dishes every time. Whether you’re a sushi traditionalist or someone who loves bold flavor combinations, there’s something here for everyone.
If you find yourself in Syosset or anywhere on Long Island, make sure to stop by Kado — your taste buds will thank you.
Kado is located at 117 Jackson Avenue on Long Island

Fresh sushi can be so delicious. It is always nice when it is freshly made. I have really been wanting to try out a new sushi place. I will have to see what I can find.
