When I was in Cincinnati for the Southwest Food Tour, probably my favorite part of the trip was brunch. I love brunch and I love liege waffles so any opportunity to have either of those things is going to be a hit in my book. Southwest did a great job making sure that we were well taken care of and took us to Taste of Belgium for brunch. Taste of Belgium has four locations and the one we visited was in the Over the Rhine neighborhood or OTR, for locals.

Southwest rented out the private room and it was a good thing they did – Taste of Belgium is a pretty popular spot in the area and there was a lineup of people waiting outside to get in. This spot was even visited by Guy Fieri on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives!

I started brunch with the SBL Mimosa which was a strawberry, basil, and lemonade drink. I can’t resist basil’s savory notes and the way it plays perfectly with the sweet strawberries and tart lemonade, this was a great way to kick off the day in Cicny.

For brunch, I couldn’t decide what to order – everything looked so delicious! So one of my travel companions and I decided to share two menu items. First up was the Chicken and Waffles we were told these are the most popular thing on the menu, and rightfully so. The liege waffle was super sweet, but paired with crispy fried chicken and a hot sauce drizzle, it was a match made in heaven.

We also shared the Sunrise Galette – a galette is a savory crepe made from buckwheat flour. I was blown away by how light this dish was. Inside the galette was a runny egg yolk – cooked to perfection, fontina cheese, asparagus, and truffle oil. You can’t go wrong with any of those flavors. It was an outstanding brunch dish.

Before we left to explore the rest of Cincinnati, the owner of Taste of Belgium made sure to send us home with some goodies – liege waffles! These four waffles were so sweet and tasty – the perfect gift for anyone you know that is a fan of Belgian food or if there’s a Reds fan in your life. Fun fact, the liege waffles at Taste of Belgium are the official waffle of the Cincinnati Reds.
