Places that offer happy hour on the weekends are a rarity. Unsurprisingly, I love happy hour – it’s a great way to try a big portion of the menu without spending too much money. When I found out that Sampan in Center City, Philly had a weekend happy hour and it was on the list of spots my friend had recommended, this was obviously going to be the winner. The spot specializes in Pan-Asian small plates which is great because we were able to try a few different things.

We ended up ordering at least one dish from each section of the menu which was a great way to get acquainted with the offerings at Sampan. We started with the Hot Chicken Bao Bun which I loved, it was so deliciously spicy and I was a huge fan of the doughy texture from the bun. If spicy chicken is your thing, this dish is for you.

We also went with the Korean BBQ Beef Satay – this was so tender and basically fell off the skewer. I seriously considered ordering another, it was so tasty.

Never one to turn down chicken wings, we ordered the King Pao Chicken Wings. The wings were in a peanut sauce with a crispy exterior and a juicy interior. Another winning dish.

My favorite dish we ordered was the Edamame Dumplings. They were in a sake broth and tasted so comforting. On a cold day, I’d like nothing more than to cuddle up with than a bowl of these dumplings and this broth.

I couldn’t visit an Asian spot without ordering noodles so we split the BBQ Beef Chow Fun. The noodles were cooked perfectly and so silky and the beef was so flavorful. The japaleno in this dish was super mild so it didn’t overpower the dish – this is a must order.

The Kobe Hot Dog really jumped out to me because of the smoked mustard. Unsurprisingly, the kobe beef was amazing but the smoked mustard was a game changer. I’m drooling just thinking about this dish.

The last thing we ordered were the Crispy Brussel Sprouts. The veggies themselves were crispy but I really loved the texture addition of the crispy puffed rice.
