A Cozy Night at Annabel Lee Tavern in Canton

A cozy, Poe-inspired tavern in Canton, Annabel Lee serves up Baltimore favorites like duck fat fries, crispy Brussels sprouts, and over-the-top BBQ chicken nachos — comfort food at its best.

If you’ve spent any time in Baltimore, chances are someone’s told you to check out Annabel Lee Tavern. Between its cozy, slightly gothic vibe (a total love letter to Edgar Allan Poe) and its reputation for great food, it’s been on my list forever. So when two different friends recommended it in the same week — and my friend Laura said she’d been dying to go — it felt like a sign.

We headed over on a Friday night and, as expected, the place was packed. We managed to snag two seats at the bar — a small miracle. Pro tip: call ahead and make a reservation if you can.

Everyone told me to order the Duck Fat Fries, and I totally get the hype now. The portion was massive (definitely shareable), and the fries were perfectly seasoned — crispy on the outside, soft in the middle, and so flavorful. I can see why they’re one of the most popular menu items.

Next up, the Crispy Brussels Sprouts. These weren’t your typical heavy, fried sprouts — they had just the right crunch and were drizzled with a light honey herb glaze that added a touch of sweetness. Honestly, I could’ve eaten a whole bowl on my own.

And then… the BBQ Chicken and Applewood Smoked Bacon Nachos. Wow. Just wow. This dish was ridiculous — in the best way. The portion was huge (I had leftovers for another meal and a half), and every chip was covered in gooey cheese and tender BBQ chicken. The bacon added that smoky, salty crunch that just tied it all together. If you order one thing at Annabel Lee Tavern, make it the nachos. You can thank me later.

If you’re in Canton and craving comfort food in a space that feels equal parts moody and warm, give Annabel Lee Tavern a try. Whether you’re sitting at the bar or tucked into a booth, it’s the kind of place you’ll want to linger for a while.

Annabel Lee Tavern is located at 601 South Clinton Street, Baltimore
