Sometimes the best travel experiences happen right in your own city. Recently I had the opportunity to enjoy a staycation at the Royal Sonesta Harbor Court in Baltimore’s Inner Harbor, and it turned out to be the perfect excuse to experience the harbor from a completely different perspective.
As someone who lives in Baltimore, I’ve walked around the harbor countless times — but waking up and falling asleep with that view right outside the window felt like something special.
The View That Steals the Show
The first thing that stood out when we arrived was the view. Looking out over the harbor from the room, the skyline and water made for a scene that felt almost postcard-worthy. I kept thinking I should have set up a sunrise timelapse video because the lighting over the harbor changes beautifully throughout the day.

Coffee at Formula Espresso
After checking in, my girlfriend and I wandered around the lobby and made our way to Formula Espresso, the small coffee shop and convenience store located inside the hotel. They serve Illy espresso, which is one of my favorite coffee brands, so we both ordered lattes.
They were exactly what we needed to start the evening — smooth, rich, and perfectly balanced.

Wine and Harbor Views
Formula Espresso also has a small wine selection, so we picked up a bottle to enjoy back in the room before dinner. As we were getting settled, the hotel staff surprised us with a small box of chocolates, which paired perfectly with the wine.
Between the wine, chocolate, and the harbor view outside the window, it made for a pretty great pre-dinner moment.

Dinner at Explorers Lounge
The hotel restaurant, Explorers Lounge, has a bit of a safari-inspired aesthetic that matches the globally inspired menu.
We decided to share a few appetizers to start, including the Thai Chicken Tower. The dish came with an incredible peanut sauce that I couldn’t get enough of — and if peanut sauce is on a menu, there’s a very good chance I’m ordering it.

Sonesta Grilled Beef Turnover
We also tried the Sonesta Grilled Beef Turnover, which ended up being my favorite bite of the evening. The grilled steak was folded into a tortilla with onions and cheese, then served with a creamy, slightly spicy sauce.
It was simple, flavorful, and a great way to kick off the meal.

Steak Diane
For her entrée, my girlfriend ordered the Steak Diane. The grilled sirloin came served with onions and tomatoes over a creamy risotto. It was a rich, comforting steak dish and she loved every bite.

Grilled Crusted Pacific Salmon
I went with the Grilled Crusted Pacific Salmon. The fish was perfectly cooked and topped with a citrus butter sauce that kept the dish feeling light and bright.
It was exactly the kind of meal that pairs well with a relaxing evening overlooking the harbor.

Chocolates, Wine, and a Harbor Sunrise
After dinner we headed back to the room to enjoy more of the wine and chocolates the hotel had sent over.
Before going to sleep, we filled out the room service breakfast card — because honestly, there are few things better than breakfast in bed while traveling.

Chocolates and Wine
I made sure to wake up early to catch the sunrise over the harbor the next morning, and it was absolutely worth it.

Breakfast in Bed
Breakfast arrived with a full spread of morning favorites, and we decided to share a little bit of everything. While it was all good, the French toast was definitely the standout — sweet, comforting, and exactly what I wanted to start the day.

Unfortunately, after breakfast it was time to check out — but the experience definitely left me thinking about a future return visit.
