During a recent trip to Williamsburg, Virginia, I had the chance to stay at the Williamsburg Lodge , and it quickly became one of my favorite parts of the visit. The hotel was recently renovated and has what I’d describe as a “Colonial Chic” style—classic and comfortable while still feeling modern.
After spending a full day walking through the streets of Colonial Williamsburg, exploring shops, and talking with the tradespeople in the historic area, it was the perfect place to return to and relax.
Quick Guide to Williamsburg Lodge

Our room was a spacious suite with a beautiful king-sized bed and an adjoining sitting area. After hours of wandering through the historic streets, it felt like a quiet retreat.

A Welcome Surprise
When we arrived, the hotel surprised us with a charcuterie platter and a bottle of champagne, which made settling into the room even more enjoyable. It was a thoughtful touch and the perfect way to kick off a relaxing evening after a day of sightseeing.

Dinner at Sweet Tea & Barley
One of the perks of staying at a hotel like the Williamsburg Lodge is having a restaurant just downstairs. That evening, my mom and I headed down to Sweet Tea & Barley, the lodge’s restaurant, for dinner.
The restaurant has a relaxed tavern-style atmosphere that fits right in with the surrounding Colonial Williamsburg setting.

Sweet Tea & Barley
Starting with a Classic Cocktail
I began dinner with a Moscow Mule, one of my favorite cocktails. The drink was exactly what you want from a classic mule—ginger beer with just enough lime and vodka to keep it refreshing.
After finishing the charcuterie platter in our room earlier, we decided to skip appetizers this time around, though the nachos on the menu sounded tempting enough that I made a mental note to try them if we returned for another meal.

The Lodge Burger
I’m almost always drawn to a good burger on a menu, so I ordered the Lodge Burger.
The all-beef patty was topped with bacon, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, and mayo. It was a classic tavern-style burger that didn’t try to overcomplicate things—and sometimes that’s exactly what you want after a long day of traveling.

The Turkey Club
My mom ordered the Turkey Club, and it quickly became another standout dish at the table.
The sandwich was stacked high with sliced turkey, bacon, cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, and mayo. Turkey sandwiches are one of my personal favorites, and this one definitely delivered.
