Summer always feels like the season where I want to make the most of every weekend, and I’m always on the lookout for summer travel ideas. Some trips call for a plane ticket and a full itinerary, while others are as simple as packing the car, grabbing coffee, and heading somewhere new for a few days.
Whether you’re looking for a quick local outing, a beach weekend, a mountain escape, or a bigger Europe trip, there are so many good places to travel in the summer. This guide pulls together some of my favorite summer travel ideas, from Baltimore day trips to road trips through Virginia, coastal Maine adventures, and international destinations worth planning around.

Stay Local: A Summer Night at Camden Yards
You don’t always need to leave town to make a summer day feel special. Sometimes the move is simply heading downtown for an Orioles game at Camden Yards.
There’s something about baseball in the summer that just works: the skyline views, the crowd, the food, and the whole energy of the ballpark. If you’re staying local this summer, a game at Camden Yards is one of the easiest ways to turn an ordinary evening into something fun.
And yes, the food is part of the experience. From hot dogs and soft pretzels to pit beef, Ekiben, Attman’s, Dippin’ Dots in an Orioles helmet, and loaded fries, there are plenty of reasons to show up hungry.

How to Choose the Right Summer Trip
If you’re not sure where to go, think about the kind of summer you want.
If you want something easy and local, go to a day game at Camden Yards or take the I-83 road trip. If you want beach time, choose Long Beach Island or Tilghman Island. If you want mountains, head to Shenandoah, Floyd, or Nelson County. If you want seafood and coastal views, plan a Maine road trip.
There really isn’t one perfect summer trip. There’s just the one that fits the kind of season you’re craving.
