To be honest, I’ve never had Indian or Nepalese food. I’ve always been interested in trying it but the opportunity hasn’t presented itself. I was meeting a friend for dinner last week and she suggested Himalayan Bistro in Federal Hill and I was excited to be trying someplace new. A former coworker had raved about the food there which is always exciting to hear.
We started the meal with Vegetable Samosa’s. They come two to an order and were so tasty. The pastry was stuffed with potatoes and peas and lightly fried but not at all greasy. I would have loved a sauce of some kind with these (I am unsure if that is customary) but they were still so delicious.
For our entrees, we shared the Shrimp Korma which was probably the juiciest shrimp I’ve ever had. And it was covered in a nutty curry sauce with a side of rice. It was flavorful and the complete bite was mind blowing.
We also ordered the Chicken Tikka. It’s cooked in a tandoori (clay oven) and this was probably some of the juiciest chicken I’ve ever had. It was served on a sizzling skillet with onions and peppers. The sauce on the side was mildly spicy and freaking delicious. I wanted to spoon it up and slather it on everything I eat forever. I’m drooling just thinking about it.
We were at an Indian restaurant, so of course we had to order naan. We opted for Garlic Naan and it was light and fluffy and packed with garlicky flavor. Another winner.
