One of Mount Vernon’s newest spots, Cafe Fili has become one of my go-tos recently. The Mediterranean inspired cafe has plenty of dishes that always hit the spot. Recently, my Girlfriend and I stopped in for a weekend lunch and as usual, were blown away by the flavors in every dish.

Cafe Fili
We shared some of the plates because the menu was filled with so many delicious options.
We started with the Roasted Chicken Grain Bowl. This was light and makes the perfect meal almost every time. The freekeh grains were topped with roasted and pickled veggies which gave a nice contrast of flavors as well as chopped salad, baba ghanouj, and saffron aioli. While the whole dish was awesome, the saffron aioli was something I couldn’t get enough of.

We also shared the Lamb Shawarma which was another hit. The roasted lamb was over a tomato and lettuce salad, topped with tahini, and served with warm pita. Each bite was packed with flavor and we couldn’t get enough.

Lastly, we shared the Hummus Special which I was expecting to be similar to a baked hummus that I’ve had at Zahav and Cypriana. This was a traditional hummus that was topped with Roasted Shaved Lamb. It was still delicious, but really similar to the other dish we ordered and I wished we went with some more variety.
