Maine

Maine: Mid-Coast

When my fiancee and I drove to Bar Harbor, of course we made some stops along the way for plenty of lobster, lighthouses, and blueberries. Of course, we didn’t hit even a fraction of the places I had bookmarked, hoping to visit. But that’s just another reason for us to go back to Maine!

Hiking + Lighthouses

  • Mount Battie (about 1 mile roundtrip)
    • If you aren’t in the mood to hike, you can just drive to the top, beautiful views of Camden!
  • Rockland Breakwater Lighthouse (Rockland)
    • About a mile off the shore you can walk along the breakwater to the lighthouse, very pretty and a nice walk
  • Pemaquid Lighthouse (Bristol)
    • This was the coolest lighthouse we saw, the way the ocean cut into the rocks was beautiful – not much of a hike but honestly a must see

Food

  • McLoons Lobster Shack (South Thomaston)This was the best lobster roll we had, again on the water, super beautiful spot. If you go out of your way for any lobster roll, this one needs to be it
  • Out on a Limb Blueberries (Lamoine)
    • We bought fresh berries and some jam to bring home (the pies looked so tempting, too)
    • This was a roadside stand somewhere along route 1
  • Zoot Coffee
    • We needed a caffeine fix and this hit the spot – we also grabbed a bag of coffee beans to enjoy at home and that was a great move
  • Bagaduce Lunch (Penobscot)
    • Great seafood and ice cream along the water – they won a James Beard Award and it was one of our favorites – the ice cream was so creamy!
  • Camden Cone (Camden)
    • Summer in Maine? Of course we needed ice cream and this was creamy and refreshing
  • Five Islands Lobster (Georgetown)
    • Another off the main road hit. Supposedly the water is colder and deeper there making the lobster sweeter. It was very good
  • 40 Paper (Camden)
    • In between Lobster Rolls we did in fact, enjoy a sit down dinner and this spot in Camden was great. The menu was extremely innovative
