I-83 Road Trip Stops (Baltimore to Harrisburg)

Baltimore to Harrisburg: Where to Eat Along I-83 (South to North Guide)

If you’re driving from Baltimore up to Harrisburg, the route along I-83 is an easy one—but it’s also packed with really good food stops if you know where to look. I’ve previously shared some of my favorite stops along I-81 in Virginia, so if you’re heading that way, that guide is worth checking out too.

This isn’t about going far out of your way or overplanning. These are spots right off the highway as you head north along the I-83 corridor. Between antique shopping, the NCR Trail, and hiking, my wife and I end up on this route pretty often, so this is a collection of places we keep coming back to.

Start Near Baltimore: Easy First Stops

The Corner Pantry

A better option if you want a proper breakfast (or lunch) before getting on I-83.

More of a sit-down feel, with a menu that leans a little more elevated but still approachable. Good way to start the drive without rushing. They have one of my absolute favorite egg sandwiches.

Scittino’s Italian Market Place

Great place to start if you want something to bring on the road.

Sandwiches, prepared foods, and a full market setup. Easy to grab something quick, or stock up if you don’t want to stop right away once you’re driving. Their pizza is excellent.

Jupiter’s Ice Cream

I’m a firm believer that it’s never a bad time for ice cream. The shop is simple, but they serve some of Baltimore’s best, Taharka.

Jake’s Grill

Classic Baltimore pit beef. It’s a small shack on the side of the road and you can be back on your way in about ten minutes. Don’t skimp on the tiger sauce.

John Brown Coffee & General Store

Good coffee, plus a general store and a butcher counter with killer sandwiches. This stop really has it all. You’ll be tempted to grab coffee, pastries, a killer burger, and some steaks to grill when you get home all within the span of a few minutes. The parking lot is a bit small for how popular John Brown is, but if you can grab a spot this is worth a visit.

Monkton Area: Coffee, Food, and a Brewery Stretch

In my opinion, this is where the drive gets better. You’re just off I-83, but it feels quieter and more scenic.

The Filling Station

Casual setup, good for coffee, breakfast, or lunch, and an easy place to reset before continuing on your drive.

The Butler Cabin

Good if you want to slow things down a bit and have an actual sit down meal instead of grabbing something quick. I’m a big fan of their pizza. It’s a good day when my wife and I are able to stop here after a hike.

Veloccino Bike and Coffee

Part bike shop, part café, inspired by spots you’d find in Italy along biking trails. Great coffee, solid pastries, and a quick stop that might inspire you to ride the NCR trail next.

Inverness Brewing

It’s a farm brewery with plenty of open space, lawn games, and food, so you can actually get out of the car and hang for a bit. Easy place to stretch your legs and slow things down before getting back on the road.

The Monkton Hotel Cafe

The Monkton Hotel itself is a historic property with rentals, a café, and bike and tube access. So if you’re looking for an adventure this is a good starting point (it’s right along the NCR trail).

Woodfire Kitchen

Wood-fired menu, a bit more elevated, and worth prioritizing if you’re planning to stop for more of a sit down meal.

Big Truck Farm Brewery

Laid-back, outdoor-focused, taproom and kitchen. And if the weather is a bit chilly, there are usually firepits on the property.

Crossing Into Pennsylvania

Coffee & Cream

Good for a quick coffee, or ice cream before finishing the drive.

Union Station Grill

Burgers, sandwiches, and an easy place to sit down for a bit before heading into Harrisburg.

Harrisburg Stops (End of the Drive)

Once you get into Harrisburg, there are a couple spots worth finishing the trip with.

Ever Grain Brewing Co.

Good beer, solid food, and a good place to settle in after being on the road.

Denim Coffee

Clean, simple coffee setup—perfect if you want something quick or a reset before heading wherever you’re staying. Their vanilla syrup is excellent.
