24 Brewery Stops, Mountain Hikes, and MORE
If you’re planning a trip to Asheville and want to experience its beer scene to the fullest, this itinerary shows exactly how to do it. Over four day, my girlfriend and I set out with a simple goal: have fun and visit as many breweries as we could. We ended up hitting 24 brewery stops, mixing in great food, coffee, and hikes along the Blue Ridge Mountains to keep things balanced.
How We Visited 24 Breweries Without Overdoing It
The key wasn’t drinking more—it was sharing more.
Instead of ordering full pours at every stop, we:
- Split flights at almost every brewery
- Took a few sips of each beer
- Stayed longer at places we loved
- Kept moving when we didn’t
That approach made the entire trip feel sustainable and way more fun.

Best Breweries in Asheville (From This Trip)
If you’re short on time, these stood out:
- Cursus Keme – my favorites we drank this trip
- Burial Beer Co. – creative beers and one of the most memorable stops
- Wicked Weed Funkatorium – best for sours and barrel-aged beers
- New Belgium Brewing – big space, scenic setting, right on the river
- Wedge Brewing Company – especially in the River Arts District

Hikes Along the Blue Ridge Mountains
One of the best decisions we made was breaking up the brewery hopping with time outdoors.
We drove along the Blue Ridge Parkway and hiked:
Frying Pan Mountain offered a longer climb with incredible views from the lookout tower, while Devil’s Courthouse was shorter but steeper with an immediate panoramic payoff. Both gave us a completely different perspective from the city and helped reset the pace of the trip.

Post-Hike Food Stop
After hiking, we went straight to Rocky’s Hot Chicken Shack.
Hot chicken, fries, mac and cheese—exactly what you want after being outside all morning.

Favorite Bites in Asheville
Beyond breweries, the food in Asheville was consistently great.
Top spots from the trip:
- White Labs Kitchen & Tap – great food + beer science concept
- Vortex Doughnuts – perfect breakfast stop
- French Broad Chocolate Lounge – desserts worth stopping for
- Hole Doughnuts – best final stop of the trip
- Buxton Hall BBQ – insane BBQ
- Biscuit Head – otherworldly biscuits and breakfast

Final Thoughts: Is 24 Breweries in Asheville Worth It?
Yes, we had a great trip. And while it sounds like we were just downing beers for four days, it was a really balanced trip. Beer, food, outdoors – Asheville has it all.
If you’re planning an Asheville brewery trip, you don’t need to hit 24 stops—but it’s nice knowing you could.
Planning another weekend getaway? Tilghman Island and Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley should both be on your list.
