A Classic Steakhouse Dinner at The Prime Rib in Mount Vernon

If you’re looking for a classic steakhouse experience in Baltimore, few places are as iconic as The Prime Rib in Mount Vernon. This flagship location has long been one of the city’s most beloved fine dining restaurants, known for its old-school steakhouse atmosphere, polished service, and beautifully prepared cuts of meat.

Recently I had the opportunity to stop in for dinner, and the meal turned into one of those evenings where every course feels like a highlight. From interactive seafood dishes to rich steakhouse classics, it was the kind of dinner that reminds you why The Prime Rib Baltimore has remained such a staple of the city’s dining scene.

Starting the Evening with House Made Sangria

Dinner began with a House Made Sangria, which turned out to be a perfect start to the evening. The drink was fruity and refreshing without being overly sweet.

Had I not been driving, I probably would have happily ordered a second glass.

Seafood on the Lava Rock

One of the most memorable dishes of the evening was the Seafood on the Lava Rock.

The plate arrived with raw salmon, scallops, yellowtail, and tuna alongside a 500-degree lava rock. The fun part of the dish is that you cook the seafood yourself right at the table.

It made the course interactive, and we had fun experimenting with the different sauces and cooking times.

A Local Cheese Charcuterie Plate

We were also served a charcuterie platter featuring locally sourced cheeses.

Of the three cheeses on the board, the standout was the Ash Goat Cheese. It was incredibly creamy with a slightly tangy flavor, and we made quick work of the entire plate.

Steakhouse Vegetables: Asparagus & Brussels Sprouts

Every good steakhouse dinner should have a vegetable course somewhere along the way.

We ordered both Grilled Asparagus and Brussels Sprouts. The asparagus ended up being my personal favorite, though both dishes were flavorful and a welcome break from the heavier courses.

Lobster Mac & Cheese

Possibly my favorite savory dish of the night was the Lobster Mac & Cheese.

The dish was loaded with creamy pasta and generous chunks of lobster. It was rich, indulgent, and exactly what you want when ordering lobster mac and cheese at a steakhouse.

The Signature Prime Rib

Of course, you can’t visit The Prime Rib without ordering the dish that gave the restaurant its name.

Served rare, the cut of prime rib was beautifully cooked and incredibly tender. Even though we were already getting full, we kept going back for bite after bite.

Salted Caramel Cake

Dessert was the Salted Caramel Cake, and the slice was massive.

The cake was moist and rich with layers of chocolate and caramel flavors that made it almost impossible to stop eating.

A Boozy Root Beer Float Nightcap

To finish the evening, we shared the Maker’s Mark Root Beer Float.

This dessert cocktail was sweet, slightly boozy, and the perfect nightcap after a full steakhouse dinner.
