Rooftop Views and Creative Plates at Topside in Mount Vernon

When Hotel Revival  opened in Mount Vernon Baltimore, it brought something the neighborhood didn’t quite have before — a rooftop restaurant with incredible city views. Sitting on the top floor of the hotel, Topside overlooks the Washington Monument and the surrounding historic neighborhood, making it one of the most unique Mount Vernon restaurants in the city.

I stopped in shortly after the opening for dinner and immediately fell in love with the space. Between the views, the cocktail program, and the creative menu, I had a feeling this would quickly become one of my new go-to spots in the neighborhood.

Creative Cocktails with a View

The Topside cocktail program is run by Chelsea Gregorie, whose drinks I’ve admired for quite a while. Naturally, starting the evening with a cocktail felt like the right move.

I ordered the Shrubs n’ Roses, which was light, refreshing, and perfect for warm weather. It had the kind of balance that makes a drink feel effortless — definitely a cocktail I could see myself ordering all summer.

My girlfriend chose the Two Dope Georgez (In A Sour Riff). Brown liquors usually aren’t my thing, but she absolutely loved it. A fun detail about the drinks here is that all of the garnishes at Topside are completely edible, which adds a playful touch to the cocktails.

Fresh Oysters to Start

I was completely in the mood for seafood, so we kicked off dinner with half a dozen fresh oysters. There’s something about starting a meal with oysters that instantly makes the evening feel a little special.

Chicken Wings with a Twist

Next up were the Chicken Wings, which came coated in a jalapeño-cilantro-peanut sauce. The flavor combination was fantastic — slightly spicy with subtle Indian-inspired notes.

The sauce was easily the highlight. I could happily put that on just about anything.

Indian “Butter” Cauliflower

One of the biggest surprises of the night was the Indian “Butter” Cauliflower.

The cauliflower was perfectly tender and served over a rich, flavorful sauce reminiscent of Indian butter chicken. Between the spices and the creamy texture, this dish had both of us practically licking the plate clean.

Smoked Short Rib

For our entrée, we decided to share the Smoked Short Rib, which a friend had recommended.

The meat was incredibly tender and served in a deeply flavorful sauce, but the real standout was the beef chicharrón on top. It added a crispy, salty crunch that made every bite more interesting.

A Sweet Finish with Churros

To wrap things up, we ordered the Churros for dessert.

The mole ganache that accompanied them was absolutely incredible — rich, complex, and something I wish I could drizzle on everything. The churro itself was slightly softer than I expected, but still delicious and a great way to end the meal.
