Mission BBQ Canton Baltimore Review: Great Food, Big Flavor, and Even Bigger Heart

There are days when all I need to turn things around is a good sandwich—especially after a night out. So when a friend visiting from out of town said she was craving pulled pork for lunch, I knew exactly where to take her: Mission BBQ in Canton. It’s one of my favorite comfort-food spots in the city, and it always hits the mark.

A BBQ Joint That Gives Back

Mission BBQ started right here in Maryland back in 2011, and what began as a small local chain has now grown to over 140 locations across the U.S. Despite the growth, the mission (pun intended) remains the same: serve great food while giving back to the heroes who serve our communities.

The company has donated over $25 million to organizations supporting veterans, first responders, and local causes. And you can feel that sense of purpose when you walk in—the walls are covered with flags, photos, and memorabilia honoring service members, police, and firefighters. At noon, everything stops for the national anthem, and guests stand to pay respect. It’s an atmosphere that feels proudly American without being overdone.

Inside the Canton Location

The Canton spot on Boston Street has that cozy, fast-casual feel. You order at the counter, grab your drink, and they call your name when the food’s ready. On warmer days, you can sit outside, but this time, the weather had other plans, so we grabbed a booth inside.

The space is filled with local touches—Maryland flags, college banners, and a lot of community pride. It’s simple, clean, and exactly what you want from a BBQ joint: unpretentious and focused on the food.

The Food: Small Menu, Big Flavor

The menu at Mission BBQ isn’t huge—just a few core sandwiches and meats—but every item feels deliberate and well-executed.

My friend’s pick: the NC Pulled Pork Sandwich, topped with coleslaw. She said it absolutely hit the spot and even joked that she wanted to come back for another the next day. The meat was tender, smoky, and just the right amount of saucy.

My other friend went for the Turkey Sandwich. She liked it once she added some of their signature sauces, though she’s a fan of thin-sliced turkey, so the chunkier cut threw her off a bit.

My order: the Chopped Brisket Sandwich, which comes drenched in their Memphis Belle BBQ sauce. This sandwich is everything I want BBQ to be—sweet, smoky, and so tender it practically melts. The roll soaked up all the extra sauce like a champ. Honestly, it’s some of the best brisket I’ve ever had.

Don’t Skip the Sides

We all upgraded to the combo, which comes with a side and a drink. Go for the fries. They’re skin-on, perfectly salted, and crispy without losing that real potato flavor. I dipped mine in the Alabama white sauce, which was a perfect tangy balance to the smoky meats.

Other standout sides (from past visits): the mac & cheese is rich and creamy, and the baked beans are smoky-sweet in the best way.
