Some of the best taco spots don’t look like much from the outside. No neon signs, no trendy branding, no line out the door — just a small place quietly turning out really good food. Tijuana Tacos 3 near Patterson Park is exactly that kind of spot.
I first heard about it from the Baltimore Magazine Taco issue. Since I’m always on the lookout for tacos around Baltimore, it immediately went on my list. When I finally made it in, it felt like the kind of place that locals probably keep to themselves.
Tacos or Tostadas?
I’m almost never the person who wants to order takeout — if there’s a table available, I’m sitting down.
My girlfriend and I stared at the menu for a while trying to decide between the tacos and the tostadas. I had also heard the nachos were great, which didn’t help the decision-making process. Eventually we did the obvious thing: ordered both and shared.
The tacos come three to an order, and you can mix and match proteins. We kept it simple and went with carne asada across the board.
Sometimes Simple Tacos Are Exactly What You Want
These tacos were straightforward, and honestly that was exactly what we were craving.
No gimmicks. Just well-seasoned steak, fresh toppings, and warm tortillas. Sometimes the best tacos are the ones that don’t try to reinvent anything.
The Tostada That Stole the Show
The carne asada tostada ended up being my favorite of the two dishes.
Under that generous pile of lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and cheese was a crispy tortilla layered with refried beans and more steak. Every bite had a little crunch, a little richness, and a lot of flavor.
It’s one of those dishes where you start eating it casually and then suddenly realize you’re trying to scrape up every last bite.
