Dinner at Don Angie NYC: A Modern Italian Feast in the West Village

Dinner with my family in New York City is always such a treat. My brother always picks an amazing spot, and we spend the evening sharing delicious dishes and catching up. Most recently, we ate at Don Angie in the West Village — and it was another unforgettable meal.

The space at Don Angie is super sleek, with a subtle 1960s diner feel that’s equal parts stylish and nostalgic. The gold accents, mirrors, and soft mood lighting make it both inviting and elevated — the kind of place you could easily linger for hours.

The menu is on the smaller side, which made it easy to try nearly everything that didn’t include pork (my parents don’t eat it).

We kicked things off with the Chrysanthemum Salad — a mountain of greens hidden under a generous snowfall of cheese and tossed in a garlic sesame dressing. Easily one of the best salads I’ve ever had.

Then came the Stuffed Garlic Flatbread, which disappeared from the table before I even got my camera ready. The crust was paper-thin, the filling oozed garlicky cheese, and the flavor was completely addictive. This is a must-order dish.

The Pink Snapper Crudo was another standout — delicate, light, and beautifully balanced with green strawberries, which added a subtle tartness that surprised me in the best way.

Every pasta on the menu sounded heavenly, but we ultimately chose the Stracchino Gnocchi and the Buffalo Milk Caramelle.

While both were incredible, the gnocchi stole the show — soft, pillowy, and bathed in a poppy seed pesto that was unlike anything I’ve ever tasted. It might have been my favorite dish of the night.

We wrapped up the savory portion of our meal with the Veal ‘da Pepi’ — a lightly fried, thinly pounded veal cutlet that was tender, flavorful, and perfectly executed. It’s a dish I’d happily order again.

For dessert, we went with the Fior di Latte Mochi, which was as creative as it was delicious. The sweet and salty vanilla bean ice cream paired with olive oil was a revelation — rich, unexpected, and absolutely divine.
