One of my favorite small luxuries is stepping away from the office for a great lunch in downtown Baltimore. It feels like a little reset in the middle of the workday — especially when the meal involves really good food.
Recently a friend and I decided to meet up at one of our longtime favorites, B&O American Brasserie, located inside the historic Hotel Monaco Baltimore. It’s a spot that consistently delivers delicious dishes in a setting that feels distinctly old-school Baltimore.
The dining room at B&O American Brasserie blends historic architecture with modern touches, giving the restaurant a polished yet comfortable atmosphere. It’s the kind of place that works equally well for a business lunch, date night, or celebratory dinner.

Duck Wings with Old Bay Cola Glaze
We started the meal with one of my absolute favorite dishes on the menu — the Duck Wings.
These wings are fall-off-the-bone tender and coated in a sticky glaze made with Old Bay, cola, and whisky. The sweet and savory flavors work perfectly together, and they easily rank among my top wings in Baltimore.

Wagyu Burger with Bacon Jam
My friend ordered the Wagyu Burger, which looked every bit as good as it tasted.
The juicy burger was topped with garlic and chive cheddar, lettuce, tomato, onion, and a generous layer of bacon jam. If you’re searching for a great burger in downtown Baltimore, this one is absolutely worth ordering.

Classic Baltimore Pit Beef Sandwich
Of all the foods that feel authentically Baltimore, pit beef might be my favorite.
So when I saw it on the menu, there was no question what I was ordering. The B&O pit beef sandwich is piled high with thinly sliced beef and topped with tobacco onions and tiger sauce.
It’s messy, flavorful, and everything I love about this classic Baltimore sandwich.

Chocolate Nougat Bar
Taking our server’s recommendation, we ended the meal with the Chocolate Nougat Bar.
The dessert was essentially an elevated version of a Milky Way bar, layered with chocolate cake, chocolate mousse, vanilla nougat, and chocolate ganache. Even though we were already pretty full, we somehow managed to finish every bite.
