Federal Hill: Home Maid

Last week I had the wonderful opportunity to attend the soft launch of Home Maid – a new all day brunch spot opening up in Federal Hill. All day brunch is something Fed desperately needs – if you’re craving pancakes after 3pm, your best bet is to cook them yourself.

When we were seated, we started with a sample size of the Chicken N Waffles. There was a huge piece of fried juicy chicken breast atop a cornmeal waffle and then drizzled with maple syrup. This was awesome, while the entrée portion is 4x the size of this – I would definitely order it again if I had someone to share it with.

We were also given a Poached Egg with Salmon on a Biscuit. The egg was a touch overdone, but the salmon was great and the biscuit was insanely flaky and buttery. I’m not usually a salmon eater, and I enjoyed this dish.

For my main course, I ordered the Home Maid Biscuit Sandwich, a fried egg with cheese and bacon on a biscuit. The biscuit was still wonderful, yolky eggs are the best, but that bacon was out of this world. It was thick cut and coated with a maple peppercorn seasoning. Sticky-sweet bacon is my favorite variety of bacon, and this didn’t disappoint.

As if all this food wasn’t enough, we were also given the Very Berry Rosemary for dessert. This was another delicious biscuit with a scoop of pistachio ice cream and berry compote. Pistachio is not an ice cream flavor I would normally order, but the creamy ice cream over the biscuit with the jam was an awesome flavor combination.

Next time I’m craving brunch, Home Maid will definitely have something to satisfy my cravings.
