When the brilliant team behind one of your favorite restaurants opens a second, Mexican inspired, spot, you take notice. Even if the new restaurant is outside of the city in suburbia. That’s exactly when Chad Gauss, the executive chef at The Food Market, arguably one of Baltimore’s best restaurants opened La Food Marketa in Pikesville. I don’t travel outside of the city for just anywhere, but the food here is fantastic and it’s worth the drive. It’s easily my favorite restaurant in Pikesville.

Whenever I’m in the mood for a drink at La Food Marketa, I always go for the Sangria. It’s topped with plenty of yummy fresh fruit and it’s seriously so juicy. That’s the only way I know how to describe it. It’s always a great choice.

Another favorite drink of mine is the Spicy Grilled Pineapple Margarita. It’s sweet, and spicy, and refreshing. Perfect for washing down those handfuls of chips and queso that I can’t leave La Food Marketa without.

Every trip I’ve taken to La Food Marketa has included an order of the Chips and Queso. At first glance they don’t look particularly special. But these chips are housemade and paper thin. They’re crispy and amazing in the best possible way. And the chips paired perfectly with the ooey gooey queso that I can’t get enough of.

One of my favorite Mexican dishes is Mexican Street Corn (elote) well La Food Marketa flipped that dish on its head and came up with Street Cauliflower. It’s all the spicy, creaminess, and cheesiness of street corn – but covering cauliflower. This dish is so yummy, it made my best plates of 2016 list.

I love fresh veggies, so of course the Layered Mushroom Burrito sparked my interest. Between crispy disks of tortillas there was whipped goat cheese, salsa verde, rice, garlicky spinach, and crispy mushrooms. This is one of those dishes that just gets better with every bite.

One of the La Food Marketa signature dishes is the Hamberguesa. It combines two of my favorite foods – a quesadilla and a hamburger – so obviously I fell in love with this dish. The thinness of the tortilla was actually the perfect answer to one of my burger issues – an uneven bun to meat ratio. This is definitely on the ‘order again ASAP’ list.

Tuna has recently been one of my favorite proteins. When I saw the Sesame Crusted Tuna Tostada I knew I needed to try it. The crispy tostada was topped with chipotle mayo (yum), avocado, and lightly seared pieces of tuna. This was just bite after bite of perfection.

So I’ve covered the apps and entrees at La Food Marketa, but all great meals also contain dessert. I’ve seen a few different milkshakes on the menu at La Food Marketa, but my favorite has been the S’mores Milkshake. I love anything s’mores and this was of course no different.
