When the team behind one of your favorite restaurants opens a new spot, you definitely pay attention. That was exactly the case when Chef Chad Gauss, the executive chef behind The Food Market—one of my favorite Baltimore restaurants—opened La Food Marketa in Pikesville.
Even though it’s outside the city, I’ll absolutely make the drive for great food. After several visits, I can confidently say La Food Marketa is my favorite restaurant in Pikesville.
The restaurant brings the same creativity and bold flavors that made The Food Market so popular, but with a Mexican-inspired twist.

La Food Marketa
Sangria and Margaritas
Whenever I’m in the mood for a drink at La Food Marketa, I usually start with the Sangria.
It’s packed with fresh fruit and somehow manages to be incredibly juicy and refreshing. It’s the kind of drink that pairs perfectly with a table full of small plates.

Another go-to for me is the Spicy Grilled Pineapple Margarita. It balances sweet grilled pineapple with just the right amount of heat, making it refreshing and a great match for the salty snacks that inevitably end up on the table.

Chips and Queso
Every visit to La Food Marketa begins the same way: an order of chips and queso.
At first glance, the dish might seem simple, but the details make all the difference. The house-made tortilla chips are incredibly thin and crispy, and they pair perfectly with the warm, gooey queso.
It’s one of those appetizers that disappears quickly once it hits the table.

Chips and Queso
Street Cauliflower
One of my favorite dishes on the menu is the Street Cauliflower, which takes inspiration from classic Mexican street corn (elote).
Instead of corn, the dish features cauliflower coated in all the flavors that make elote so irresistible—spicy, creamy, and cheesy. It’s bold, comforting, and completely addictive.
This dish was so good that it even made my Best Plates of 2016 list.

Layered Mushroom Burrito
I’m always drawn to veggie-forward dishes, so the Layered Mushroom Burrito immediately caught my attention.
Between crispy layers of tortillas, you’ll find whipped goat cheese, salsa verde, rice, garlicky spinach, and crispy mushrooms. The textures and flavors build with every bite, making this a dish that keeps getting better as you eat.

Hamberguesa
One of the signature dishes at La Food Marketa is the Hamberguesa.
It’s a creative mashup of a hamburger and a quesadilla, which immediately caught my attention because those are two of my favorite foods.
The tortilla acts as the bun, and its thinness actually solves one of my usual burger complaints—too much bread compared to the meat. The result is a balanced bite that’s both satisfying and unique.
This is definitely one of those dishes I order again whenever I visit.

Sesame Crusted Tuna Tostada
Tuna has become one of my favorite proteins lately, so I couldn’t resist the Sesame Crusted Tuna Tostada.
The crispy tostada is topped with chipotle mayo, avocado, and lightly seared tuna, creating a dish that feels fresh, flavorful, and perfectly balanced.
It’s one of those bites that makes you immediately want another.

S’mores Milkshake
Of course, no great meal is complete without dessert.
La Food Marketa offers several milkshakes, but my favorite has been the S’mores Milkshake. If you love the classic campfire dessert, this drinkable version delivers all the same flavors in a creamy, indulgent form.
It’s the perfect sweet ending to a meal.
