Taste of Belgium Cincinnati Review: The Perfect Brunch Spot in OTR

When I visited Cincinnati for the Southwest Food Tour, one of the highlights of the trip was brunch. Anyone who knows me knows I love a good brunch, and I’m especially excited anytime Liege waffles are involved.

Southwest made sure we were well taken care of and brought us to Taste of Belgium, a well-known local restaurant famous for its authentic Belgian waffles and creative brunch menu. Taste of Belgium has several locations throughout Cincinnati, and the one we visited was in the Over-the-Rhine neighborhood (OTR)—one of the city’s most popular dining districts.

If you’re planning a trip to Cincinnati and love brunch, this spot absolutely deserves a place on your list.

Southwest reserved the restaurant’s private dining room for our group, which turned out to be a great idea. Taste of Belgium is extremely popular, and when we arrived there was already a line forming outside.

The restaurant has also gained national attention—it was even featured by Guy Fieri on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, which explains why locals and visitors alike flock here for brunch.

The Line at Taste of Belgium

To kick off brunch, I ordered the SBL Mimosa, made with strawberry, basil, and lemonade.

I’m a big fan of basil in cocktails because its savory notes pair so well with bright, fruity flavors. In this drink, the sweetness of the strawberry balanced perfectly with the tart lemonade and herbaceous basil. It was refreshing, light, and a great way to start the morning in Cincinnati.

Choosing what to order for brunch wasn’t easy because everything on the menu looked incredible. One of my travel companions and I decided to share a couple of dishes so we could try more.

First up was the Chicken and Waffles, which we were told is the most popular dish on the menu—and it’s easy to see why.

The Liege waffle was slightly sweet with a crisp exterior, and it paired beautifully with the crispy fried chicken. A drizzle of hot sauce brought everything together with just the right amount of heat. Sweet, savory, and spicy—it’s a perfect brunch combination.

We also shared the Sunrise Galette, which was another standout dish.

A galette is a savory crepe made from buckwheat flour, and this one was surprisingly light and flavorful. Inside the galette was a perfectly runny egg yolk along with fontina cheese, asparagus, and truffle oil.

Those ingredients alone are hard to resist, and together they created a rich yet balanced brunch dish.

Before we left to explore more of Cincinnati, the owner of Taste of Belgium sent us home with a few Liege waffles to-go.

These waffles are incredibly sweet and delicious, making them a perfect treat to bring home—or to gift to anyone who loves Belgian pastries.

Fun fact: the Liege waffles from Taste of Belgium are actually the official waffle of the Cincinnati Reds.
