A Wine Break at Vino Volo in BWI Airport

Airport delays are never fun — but if you find the right spot to pass the time, they can become a little more enjoyable.

During a recent trip through BWI Airport, my flight ended up delayed, leaving me with some unexpected time to kill. Rather than sitting at the gate, I decided to wander the terminal and found one of the best places you can stumble across in an airport: a wine bar.

That’s how I ended up at Vino Volo, where a glass of wine and a few snacks made the delay much more manageable.

California Kings Wine Flight

Lately I’ve been trying to explore more red wines, so I ordered the California Kings Flight.

The tasting flight was a fun way to try several wines side by side and expand my palate. That said, these selections leaned a little drier than my usual preferences, so I probably would have been happier ordering one of the white wine flights.

Still, it was a nice way to spend some extra airport time.

Burrata with Tomatoes and Balsamic

To go with the wine, I ordered the Burrata.

The creamy cheese was served over lettuce and tomatoes with a balsamic drizzle, creating a classic combination that pairs beautifully with wine.

It’s simple, but sometimes the simplest dishes are the most satisfying.

Truffled Popcorn

As the delay stretched a little longer, I decided to order one more snack: Truffled Popcorn.

This turned out to be the perfect airport snack. The popcorn was salty, lightly truffled, and finished with fresh shaved parmesan. It’s exactly the kind of dish that makes it easy to sit back, relax, and wait out a delayed flight.
