Bluebird Cocktail Room in Hampden

The Bluebird Cocktail Room opened quietly in Hampden at the end of July, but it didn’t stay under the radar for long. The cocktail bar has been generating a lot of buzz around Baltimore restaurants and bars, so when a few fellow bloggers and Instagram friends invited me to join them for happy hour, I quickly said yes.

I’m never one to turn down a well-made cocktail, and Bluebird is exactly the kind of place that makes drinks worth lingering over.

A Cozy Cocktail Spot in Hampden

Bluebird Cocktail Room has a relaxed but polished atmosphere that feels right at home in Hampden. It’s the kind of place where you can settle in with friends, order a few drinks, and slowly work your way through the menu.

Because I was with a group of fellow food bloggers, we ended up trying a lot of drinks and sampling several dishes, which made it easy to explore the menu.

Mint Julep

The first drink I tried was the Mint Julep.

It was slightly sweet but nicely balanced. Since I’m not usually a bourbon drinker, I appreciated how the sweetness helped soften the stronger bourbon flavor. It was smooth and easy to sip.

Mrs. Dalloway

My favorite drink of the evening was the Mrs. Dalloway.

This cocktail combines vodka, pamplemousse liqueur, elderflower liqueur, lime, and cucumber, resulting in a bright and refreshing drink. It had the perfect balance of citrus and floral notes, and I enjoyed it so much that I ordered a second one later in the evening.

Hemingway Special Daiquiri

Another cocktail I had the chance to try was the Hemingway Special Daiquiri.

If you’re expecting the typical frozen daiquiri, this version is quite different. It’s made with rhum agricole, maraschino liqueur, lime, grapefruit, and sugar, served over crushed ice.

The citrus and rum combination made it incredibly refreshing—especially on a warm evening.

French Fries

In addition to the drinks, Bluebird also offers a small menu of shareable plates.

We started with French fries, which were thin, crispy, and topped with parmesan cheese. They were served with a side of truffle aioli, which made them even better.

Sometimes the simplest dishes are the most satisfying.

Ricotta Stuffed Squash Blossoms

One of my favorite small plates was the Ricotta Stuffed Squash Blossoms.

The blossoms were lightly fried, but the real standout was the red pepper garlic coulis served alongside them. It added a creamy, flavorful element that made the dish especially memorable.

Yellow Lentil Hummus

We also ordered the Yellow Lentil Hummus, which was topped with a drizzle of harissa oil.

The hummus was incredibly creamy and bright, with just a little heat from the harissa. It paired perfectly with the cocktails and worked well as a shareable snack for the table.

Other Dishes and Drinks from the Table

While those were the dishes I personally tried, our group also ordered several other items from the menu, including:

  • The Pig Island – pineapple rum, dark rum, pineapple, spiced bacon syrup, falernum, and house grenadine

  • A Secret Love – lemongrass vodka, honey, and Black Ankle Vineyards verjus

  • Gin Rickey – gin, lime, and soda

  • The Handsome Devil – honey gin, wildflower honey, amaro, and activated charcoal

  • Absinthe Drip – absinthe, sugar, and water

  • Lamb Meatballs – Middle Eastern spices, pine nuts, raisins, tomato, and yogurt sauce

  • Charcuterie Plate – house-made meats, seasonal jam, pickles, and rustic bread

The variety on the menu makes it easy to mix and match drinks and snacks depending on what kind of evening you’re looking for.
