When I was in Annapolis meeting a friend for dinner, we were both in the mood for something light and fresh — and sushi felt like the perfect fit. Since it was her hometown, I let my friend pick the spot. Knowing about my slight Food Network obsession, she suggested Joss Sushi, a local favorite that had been featured on The Best Thing I Ever Ate for their fried shrimp heads. I don’t eat shrimp, so I didn’t try them, but it was still fun dining at a place that got a shoutout from a professional chef!
My friend started with the Seaweed Salad, which was incredibly light, refreshing, and just the right way to kick off the meal.
I went for one of my Japanese restaurant staples — Miso Soup. Even though the weather was warming up, I can never resist it. The broth was comforting and balanced, not too salty, and had that perfect umami flavor I crave.
For our main course, we decided to share three rolls — a Spicy Tuna Roll with Avocado, a Spicy Salmon Roll with Avocado, and a Crunchy Scallop Roll.
The sushi arrived beautifully plated, and the fish was incredibly fresh — exactly what you want when ordering sushi. I loved the spicy rolls; they had just the right amount of heat for me, but my friend found them a little too spicy for her taste. Luckily, she was obsessed with the crunchy scallop roll, which had deep-fried scallops that were cooked perfectly and added a nice texture to each bite.
If you’re craving sushi in Annapolis, Joss Sushi is a must-visit. With fresh fish, great flavors, and a cozy atmosphere, it’s easy to see why locals (and Food Network stars!) rave about it.
Joss Sushi is located at 195 Main St, Annapolis.

Joss is good, but Nano right next door has a larger menu. In my opinion much better than Joss.
Thanks for the tip! I’ll check it out.
