A Small Plates Feast at Chloe in Navy Yard

If you haven’t visited Navy Yard in Washington DC recently, the neighborhood has completely transformed. It seems like every week there’s a new restaurant opening, and many of them are seriously impressive.

One of the spots that had been on my list for a while was Chloe by Haidar Karoum, and after finally visiting for dinner, I’m already thinking about my next trip back.

From the moment we walked in, the restaurant made a great first impression. The space is stylish without feeling overdone, and the small plates menu makes it easy to try several different dishes throughout the evening.

My girlfriend and I were lucky enough to grab seats at the Chef’s Counter, which ended up being one of the highlights of the experience.

Watching the kitchen team prepare each dish gave us a great look into the restaurant’s energy and creativity. Since everything on the menu is designed as shareable small plates, we ordered a variety of dishes and split everything.

Sheep’s Milk Ricotta with Honey

We started with the Sheep’s Milk Ricotta, served with warm toasted bread and drizzled with raw honey.

The combination of sweet honey and salty ricotta worked beautifully, and the bread was perfect for piling high with cheese.

Cobia Crudo

Next up was the Cobia Crudo, which was incredibly fresh.

The dish had a subtle heat from Thai chilies, while puffed black rice added a surprising crunch that made every bite more interesting.

Grilled Wild Ramps

Spring produce is one of my favorite things about seasonal menus, so we couldn’t resist ordering the Grilled Wild Ramps.

They were charred and smoky with a nutty romesco sauce that complemented the ramps perfectly. If this dish is still on the menu when you visit, it’s absolutely worth ordering.

Crispy Cauliflower

The standout dish of the night was easily the Crispy Cauliflower.

The outside had an incredible crunch while the inside stayed tender. The tahini sauce was creamy and tangy, and we seriously debated ordering a second plate.

Spiced Beef Hummus with Naan

The last savory dish we ordered was the Spiced Beef Hummus.

It had more heat than we expected, which made it even more addictive. The dish was served with house-made naan, which was perfect for scooping up the creamy hummus.

Meyer Lemon Tart

Of course, we couldn’t leave without dessert.

We ordered the Meyer Lemon Tart, which had a sweet citrus flavor that paired perfectly with the blueberries. It leaned slightly sweet, but every bite was still delicious.
