A Flavor-Packed Mediterranean Lunch at Cafe Fili in Mount Vernon

The Mount Vernon neighborhood in Baltimore has become one of the most exciting dining areas in the city, and one of the newer spots that has quickly become a favorite of mine is Cafe Fili.

This Mediterranean-inspired café has a menu filled with fresh, flavorful dishes that work perfectly for lunch or a casual dinner. My girlfriend and I recently stopped in for a weekend lunch, and once again every bite delivered on flavor.

Cafe Fili

Located on Cathedral Street, Cafe Fili has quickly become one of my regular stops in Mount Vernon. The menu blends Mediterranean flavors with fresh ingredients, making it easy to order several dishes and share.

Roasted Chicken Grain Bowl

We started with the Roasted Chicken Grain Bowl, which ended up being one of my favorite dishes of the meal.

The bowl featured freekeh grains topped with roasted and pickled vegetables, along with chopped salad, baba ghanouj, and saffron aioli. The mix of textures and flavors worked beautifully together.

The real standout for me was the saffron aioli, which added a creamy richness that tied the whole dish together.

Lamb Shawarma

Next up was the Lamb Shawarma, another fantastic dish.

The roasted lamb was served over a fresh tomato and lettuce salad, topped with tahini, and accompanied by warm pita. Every bite was full of bold Mediterranean flavor, and it was easily one of the highlights of the meal.

Hummus Special with Roasted Lamb

The final dish we shared was the Hummus Special, which was topped with roasted shaved lamb.

I originally expected something similar to the baked hummus dishes I’ve had at places like Zahav or Cypriana, but this was more of a traditional hummus preparation.

It was still delicious — creamy hummus paired with tender lamb and warm pita — though it ended up being a bit similar to the shawarma dish. In hindsight, we might have ordered something with a little more variety.
