Date Night Dessert: The Chocolate Soufflé You Can Make at Home

Let’s talk date night—for me, the best part is always dessert. And when it’s rich, chocolatey, and fills the kitchen with that irresistible aroma, it’s a true treat. If I want something a little more exciting than cookies, but less overdone than a lava cake, I always turn to a chocolate soufflé made with pantry staples.

Don’t let this classic French dessert intimidate you. The key is simple: prep all your ingredients first—measure and weigh everything—and then move quickly once you start. With this approach, you’ll end up with a sky-high, impressive soufflé every time.

Over the years, I’ve experimented with a few soufflé varieties, but chocolate always remains my favorite. When Domino® Sugar invited me to try their new Golden Sugar, I knew its subtle molasses notes would enhance the flavor beautifully. Plus, it’s less processed than traditional white sugar, which makes me feel a little better about indulging.

No matter what we choose for date night, a chocolate soufflé is always a showstopper, turning an ordinary meal into something truly memorable. You might think soufflés are reserved for fancy restaurants, but the first time you see yours rise in the oven, you’ll be keeping this recipe in your back pocket for all future date nights—or any dinner party where you want to impress.

So, what are you waiting for? Don’t let the chocolate soufflé intimidate you—step up your next date night and make it a dessert to remember.

Recipe Notes

Measure all of your ingredients and butter the ramekins before you begin so you can assemble the soufflé as quickly as possible – doing so will help ensure your soufflé rises

The ramekins I use are 3.5 inches wide and 1 inch deep
