A friend and I were craving donuts — but not the trendy, over-the-top kind from a hipster bakery. We wanted the classic, old-fashioned donuts made in a place that’s been around for decades, passed down through generations.
A quick search led me to a Baltimore Magazine article about the editors’ favorite doughnuts. Every spot looked incredible, but Fenwick Bakery wasn’t too far, so we decided to check it out.
When we walked in, the shop was filled with glass cases overflowing with pastries, cakes, and donuts that looked straight out of a nostalgic dream. The smell of fresh-baked dough hit us instantly — pure heaven.
It was impossible to pick just one pastry each, so naturally, we decided to split a few.
We started with the Sugar Twist, a light and cakey donut that was perfectly sweet and satisfying. If a donut craving ever strikes again, this one would absolutely hit the spot.
Next up — the Marshmallow Filled donut, and wow — this was my favorite. It was packed with marshmallow filling (the real kind, according to the woman behind the counter), but it wasn’t too sweet or heavy. This one easily makes my Top 5 Donut List.
Then we tried the Custard Filled Donut, topped with a layer of rich chocolate frosting. The custard was smooth and creamy, and that chocolate topping tied everything together perfectly.
Finally, we had to try a classic Chocolate Frosted Donut. Just like the others, it was a winner — light, fluffy, and coated in thick, decadent chocolate frosting.
If you’re in Hamilton and craving something sweet, head over to Fenwick Bakery and make sure to grab the Marshmallow Filled Donut — it’s an old-school treat that absolutely delivers.
Fenwick Bakery is located at 7219 Harford Rd.

This makes me SO HAPPY to see you posting about Fenwick. My grandmother has been going there since she was younger and always took me. As you say they’re real bakery doughnuts not hipster paradise doughnuts, I want more people to know about Fenwick…but I also don’t. You should also definitely try the Italian market across the street from it. Amazing pasta, sandwiches, cheese, etc.
I’m so glad you liked my review, Marlo! And thank you for the tip! What’s the name of the Italian market? Have you been to Woodlea Bakery yet? They also have old fashioned donuts, I should have a review coming soon!
