Samos in Greektown: A Full Greek Food Experience

In Greektown, just north of Canton, Greek restaurants are everywhere—but if you want a full sampler of what the cuisine has to offer, Samos is the spot. A friend had heard about their “Tour of Samos” and thought it would be perfect for a group outing. After coordinating schedules with eight other friends, we were all set for a night of Greek food.

The tour kicked off with Tzatziki and warm Pita for the table. Creamy, garlicky, and just the right start to whet our appetites.

Each person got a Greek Salad. While the salad itself was standard, the feta cheese was super creamy and tangy—I could have eaten a block of it on its own.

Next came Calamari. I don’t eat calamari myself, but my friends loved it. The breading wasn’t overpowering, letting the flavor of the squid shine through.

One of my favorite dishes was the Spinach Pie. Flaky filo dough with a creamy spinach and feta filling—perfectly executed. This is one of the best versions of spanakopita I’ve had in the area.

Next, Garlic Shrimp and Dolmades.

The Garlic Shrimp were packed with flavor and grilled to perfection, a hit with everyone at the table.

The Dolmades, stuffed grape leaves with rice, scallions, and herbs, came drizzled with a lemon-dill sauce. While I wouldn’t seek them out again, they were well-made and enjoyable.

The last savory plate was the Meat Plate, easily my favorite.

Chicken Souvlaki: Tender, flavorful, and eating it off the skewer is always a win.

Lamb Gyro: Crispy, flavorful, and perfect for a pita sandwich.

Lamb Chops: My ultimate favorite of the night—juicy, tender, and cooked to perfection.

The plate also came with Roasted Potatoes, which were lemony, garlicky, and delicious.
