I needed to head north of the city to run a few errands, so a friend and I decided to visit Mount Washington Tavern. It was a Saturday morning, and we made a rookie mistake: neither of us checked the menu to see if brunch was offered. Spoiler alert—it’s only available on Sundays. Regardless, we decided to stay and have lunch in the Tavern Room.
I had been to Mount Washington Tavern for happy hour before, and their truffle fries were excellent, so we started with an order. The fries were described as tossed in white truffle oil and dusted with shaved asiago, parmesan cheeses, and parsley flakes. Unfortunately, there were no parsley flakes, and the truffle flavor was barely detectable. They ended up being mediocre fries with too much cheese on top—a disappointing start to our meal.
Because we were craving brunch, my friend was disappointed she couldn’t order a waffle. She changed course and ordered the Jumbo Lump Crab Wontons, filled with cream cheese, scallions, and jumbo lump crab, served with a Thai dipping sauce. Unfortunately, the crab did not taste fresh, and the dish had far too much cream cheese compared to the crab. My friend mentioned that the crab wontons at Brothers Sushi are far superior.
On a more positive note, I enjoyed my Lamb Burger. While not spectacular, it was at least satisfying. The burger featured freshly ground lamb blended with crumbled feta and Mediterranean spices. The menu mentioned it came with dill-yogurt sauce and mint jelly, but neither were present on my plate. Our waiter was distracted, and given how lackluster the meal had been so far, we opted not to mention it. We quickly asked for the check and left.
If you’re in Mount Washington and looking for a lunch spot, Mount Washington Tavern may not be your best bet.

I wasn’t impressed with their dinner, either.
Me either, it’s not worth the trip.
