If you ask around for the best pizza in Baltimore, I’m sure more than one person will mention Matthew’s Pizza in Highlandtown. Matthew’s has been a city institution since 1943 serving old-world (deep dish) style pizza. My friend loves Our House which serves the same style of pizza as Matthew’s. In an effort to try something new, I was able to sway her to head over to Highlandtown with me.
We started with an order of the Garlic Bread. Bread plus garlic and oil, what’s not to love?
We also decided to start with an order of the Homemade Meatballs. The order comes with two massive meatballs and plenty of tomato sauce. The meatballs were flavorful and moist and many of the reviews suggested that these were a great pizza topping.
Lastly, we shared a Popular Pie. This was your standard tomato sauce and mozzarella cheese pizza. The thick crust was really great, but the pizza was a little oilier than I would have liked. I would love to go back and try one of their more interesting offerings though.
If you’re looking for some old-world style pizza and Italian fare, head over to Matthew’s Pizza in Highlandtown.

That garlic bread looks delicious and those are some plump meatballs. Glad you enjoyed Matthews!
